No time (I have 3 kids)
I’m too tired (I have 3 kids and work full time)
It’s too hard (so much easier to open a box of something and throw it in the microwave)
No willpower (I have 3 kids and I’m tired LOL)
I’m too old (my teenage years are gone, why do I want to do this now)
I don’t know how (I don’t know what to eat, or how to work out)
I have hypothyroidism (this was one of my big ones)
Etc.
When we overthink our excuses we start to validate them in our heads and then never start or we quit.
Instead of focusing on what your excuses are, think of what your reasons are.
Your reason is your why, your purpose, your positive validation for why you want to do it.
It can be anything, from wanting to fit into a great pair of skinny jeans, or a cute dress.
It can be because you have health issues that can be corrected by a better diet and exercise.
It can be because you don’t want your children to grow up not knowing how to take care of their nutrition and health, or that you don’t want them to grow up having body image issues, low self-confidence and feelings of low self-worth. The best way to teach them is to show them, be their example.
I believe that we all have to find a positive reason why we want to do this, so that it burns a fire in us to keep us going
day after day, to invalidate some of the excuses we use, to push us to work harder, make better food choices, to get us up and to the gym, or to our basements to work out.
Positivity will keep you moving forward every time, because it feels good, doing something that makes us feel good and that we feel benefits us will keep us doing it.
So instead of focusing on your excuses, start finding your why, then run with it, take it one day at a time, some days it’s
one moment at a time, or one choice at a time. No, it’s not easy, but turning it into a positive reason why you are doing it will help you stay on track, and you will make better choices more often than not.
My reasons have changed over the last 2 years of my new life. I have gone from wanting to beat my record time at the warrior dash, to wanting to get the cute dress, to wanting to see more muscle, to feel better, to look better, but my main reason is to teach my kids about health and wellness, to have them know this so well that it becomes them and that they
embrace it and live it without hesitation. Life will give them enough things to worry about, if they don’t have to worry about body image or health issues due to poor eating habits and lack of fitness then I have done good by them.
Be Patient, Be Kind, Believe.
