Fresh good food for my family.
Is it easy?? No.
Is it fun?? Not really.
Is it expensive?? It’s our health investment
Is it doable?? Of course it is, if you want it.
Is it worth it?? ABSOLUTELY
It is not an easy habit to get into, most of us fly by the seat of our pants when
it comes to food, we are all busy in our lives, always running around, always
having something else we could be doing, so we turn to fast foods, full of bad
options, or the unhealthy stash in the pantry or cantina LOL.
It’s not something you can completely change in a day, I started slowly, and changed
my eating habits one at a time, taking everything away, and spending hours in
the grocery store looking for good food, and then hours trying to prepare it all
off the bat would have sent me running for the hills and I wouldn’t have
continued doing it. That’s the honest truth.
Now that we have integrated this into our lives, I can’t imagine not having fresh
food in the house, or even worse, not having that food prepared for the week,
don’t get me wrong, I can totally eat out and make the best choices ever at
almost any restaurant, but why, why spend that money when I have already
purchased the food, and I prefer to eat what I have made, knowing exactly what I
put in it and how I cooked it.
I prepare myself on Thursday nights with my flyers, I check to see where the good
sales are for my staple foods, skinless, boneless chicken breast, white fish,
ground turkey, ground beef, fresh fruits and
veggies.
(unfortunately things are backwards and eating healthy food costs more than buying junk
food)
Then I plan the meals for the week depending on what I’m going to purchase, I have my
own meal plan, and then my husband and teenager have one, and then I meal prep
for the two little ones, it’s all basically the same, give or take a few items,
my husband and oldest son eat more carbs and larger portions of protein then I
do because they are bulking, the two smaller ones don’t love veggies so I need
to get creative with their meals.
Once I have my list all done, I can’t go wrong, I shop the perimeter of the grocery
store, that’s where all the good food that we should be eating is, then I run up
a couple of isles to get stuff like spices and condiments etc. don’t linger in
the aisles, they will tempt you to get stuff you don’t need, stick to your list
and just go.
I love to set out all my food on the kitchen table and then plan out what I’m
cooking first, etc.
I wash all our fruit, and lettuce, so that it’s easy to grab and go, No Excuses.
Once everything is done, it all gets portioned out into Tupperware for the week for
each person (I should have stocks in Tupperware). Mornings are much easier when we can all just grab our Tupperware
and go; no guessing what’s for lunch or snacks.
It is really a saving grace.
It does take a lot of time, depending on my weekend and how busy we are, I organise
myself to be able to prep in-between kids’ activities or I go at it for a few
hours on Sunday. Would I rather be doing something else, YUP, you better believe
it I would; I would love to be curled up on the couch, coffee in hand wrapped in
a blanket watching movies. Here’s the problem, when I lived like that, I was
45lbs overweight, depressed, and felt like shit. Those feelings, I keep them in
my head, I don’t want to forget how that felt, because that is what pushes me
and fires me up to get what I need to get done, done. No excuses, no bs. If I
don’t dilly dally and get it done quickly then I can still sit for a movie, if
not oh well, next time I better move faster LOL. My family benefits from this,
and my success has come from being prepared, almost ALL the time, if you Fail to
Plan, you Plan to Fail. My coach said those words to me and they make sense.
So it really comes down to how badly do you want this change??
Do you want it enough that you are willing to change your
behaviors??
Or are you not willing to put in the work to get the results you
want??
Food doesn’t lie, if you aren’t eating what you should be eating, it will show on
your body, you can’t hide bad nutrition, you can’t out train bad nutrition, it
is your number one key to changing your body and fixing your health, this is
much more then fitting into a size 2 dress or pants, it’s about not getting
diabetes, or heart disease, or having aches and pains because your body can’t
bare the weight you are making it carry, it’s about finding yourself, your
self-esteem, your confidence, your true being, because being successful at this
has changed me more than I could have ever imagined.
Fitting into almost anything I want is a GREAT feeling, but being happy, healthy and
proud of myself is even BETTER.
So, PLAN PLAN PLAN, make sure to prep your food, pack it, and eat it.
Drink your water, if you are not a water drinker, well, become one, there is nothing
better you can drink; drop the pop, its pure sugar and it will kill you. If you
have to, put lemon or fruit in your water for taste. If you are new to the water
drinking, start with 1 litre a day, and then keep adding until you reach 3
litres, you will get used to it, don’t be a negative sally already without
trying it. It takes time, everything does when you have to change, but you can
do it, if you want to do it, only you can make these changes, at the end of the
day you either want it or you don’t, you either do it or you don’t, the choice
is always yours and you are always right. Nutrition is key.
Be Patient, Be Kind, Believe.
